A daily-life description of the performance question is: ‘Is the system fast enough at times when there are a lot of users using the system simultaneously?’ In order to be able to answer the performance question, performance tests are executed. The performance tests deliver a lot of measurement data that needs to be analyzed.
On the basis of the outcome of this analysis, stakeholders can state how they value the measured performance.
Improvement activities are often performed by a multidisciplinary team, that is involved in providing the measurements and optimize the performance. Since problems in the performance can have deeper, architectural reasons, the performance tester works together with the analyst, ICT-architect and the constructer.
Technical expertise is important within the performance tests, as well as being able to provide good understanding and overview of the activities, the progress and the test coverage. The TestGoal method gives distinct leads for this.
